Milwaukee Big Headed Ant Control

Facts & Information

What are Big Headed Ants?

Big-headed ants get their name from their disproportionately large head in relation to their overall body size. Originally from Africa, these ants are an invasive species in the United States. They are relatively larger compared to other ant species. Big-headed ants are reddish-brown in color and 3 to 6 millimeters in length. These ants eat insects and honeydew produced from aphids.

Why Do I Have Them?

Big-headed ants prefer damp environments and are often found outdoors underneath logs and mulch. They are known to invade houses foraging for food. However, they do not usually prefer to nest inside of homes. Big-headed ants are found in Florida and the other Gulf Coast States.

Why Should I Be Concerned?

Big-headed ants are problematic when they invade your home and property. When foraging for food, these ants will contaminate sweets and grains found within kitchen pantries. Since big-headed ant nests have multiple queens, these ants breed rapidly and create huge colonies, leading to large ant infestations. These ants are also known to feed on houseplants causing them to wilt.
