Milwaukee Japanese Beetle Control

Facts & Information

What are Japanese Beetles?

Japanese beetles are an invasive species that were accidentally introduced to the United States in the early 1900s. They are commonly found in Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin. Without any natural predators, these beetles wreak havoc with their feeding habits. Japanese beetles are ½ of an inch in length and have a metallic green head and thorax with copper-brown wings.

Why Do I Have Them?

Japanese beetles feed on more than 300 plant species. Their preferred plants include rose, linden, apple, cherry, maple, and many more. They skeletonize leaves by feeding on all of the plant matter, except the veins. Japanese beetle damage usually affects only the appearance of plants. Grubs chew at the grassroots, which causes dead patches of grass to develop.

Why Should I Be Concerned?

Japanese beetles are primarily an outdoor pest. As larvae, they chew on grassroots, resulting in large patches of dead grass. Adult beetles feed on a variety of garden plants and vegetation. They will eat all the plant matter of leaves and petals, except the veins, giving it a skeletal appearance. Japanese beetles do not usually enter homes but sometimes may accidentally wander inside.

How Do I Keep Japanese Beetles Out of My House?

Japanese beetles can fly indoors and feed on houseplants inside the house. However, they are primarily outdoor pests. Japanese beetles are a challenging pest to prevent because they feed on a wide variety of plants. Do not use Japanese beetle bag traps! These traps actually attract more beetles to your yard leading to even more plant damage. The best solution is to contact the beetle control experts at Advanced Wildlife & Pest Control.
