Voles are a close cousin to the mouse and are oftentimes mistaken for them. The meadow mouse (or field mouse) is actually a type of vole. Voles are similar in size to mice roughly 3-4 inches. However, they have rounder and stockier bodies with shorter tails. Voles are also grey to light brown in color. Plant matter such as the bulbs and roots of plants and trees are a vole’s preferred food.
