Snakes
Snakes come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. They can range from just a few feet in length to several meters in length. Being cold-blooded creatures, snakes prefer warmer climates. With Wisconsin cold winters and warm summers, snakes are typically only active during the spring and summer months. The biggest concern with snakes is if they are venomous or not? Luckily, out of the 21 species of snakes in Wisconsin, only two are venomous and both of them live in the southwestern part of the state.
Snakes can be very beneficial animals to have around in your yard. They are great at rodent control. The most common snake you will find in Wisconsin is the garter snake which is basically harmless. Garter snakes are not venomous, but they will bite you if provoked and picked up. Garter snake bites are harmless and may leave an itchy, tingling feeling but it is nothing to worry about.
