Facts & Information
What are Crazy Ants?
Crazy ants get their name from their frantic movements and erratic running behavior. Originally from South America, these ants are an invasive species in the United States. Crazy ants are black in color and 2 to 3 millimeters in length. They have a painful bite, which causes a stinging sensation. These ants eat a wide variety of foods, including insects, sweets, grease, and fruits.
Why Do I Have Them?
Crazy ants will nest in both damp and dry environments. They are often found outdoors in soil and debris. As the weather gets colder, these ants may invade houses through foundation cracks, searching for shelter. Once indoors, these ants are usually found in potted plants and kitchens. Crazy ants are found in Texas and other Gulf Coast States.
Why Should I Be Concerned?
Crazy ants are problematic when they invade your home and property. When foraging for food, these ants will contaminate foods found within kitchen cabinets and pantries. Since crazy ant nests have multiple queens, these ants breed rapidly, leading to large ant infestations.
